KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 18

Dean R. Thompson, the United States Ambassador to Nepal, paid a courtesy call on Interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki at Singha Durbar today.

The meeting centered on further strengthening Nepal–US bilateral relations, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

Ambassador Thompson conveyed the US government's commitment to supporting Nepal's development aspirations, the ministry noted.

Later on X (formerly Twitter), Ambassador Thompson wrote, "Today, I met Nepal's Interim Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Sushila Karki. As I offered my condolences for the lives lost in the recent protests, I also reaffirmed the United States' support for Nepal's peaceful and democratic path forward. Building on more than 78 years of U.S.-Nepal partnership, we discussed ways to advance trade, foster economic growth, strengthen disaster preparedness, and carry forward the MCC Nepal Compact to further the interests and prosperity of both our countries."
