KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 2

Rotary Club of Kathmandu Midtown has awarded the first Pratap Malla Social Service Award to Basudev Adhikari, a radio journalist and activist.

The award was presented to Adhikari, a person with vision impairment, at a recognition ceremony in presence of Nepal Rotary District Governor Rajib Pokhrel and President Lt Gen KNS Thapa (retired) at a function in Hotel Shanker, in Kathmandu.

According to a press release issued by Rotary Club of Kathmandu Midtown, the recognition carries a cash award of Rs 100,000 and a plaque. The family of late Rtn Pratap Malla established an endowment fund of over Rs 1 million to support an annual award for community service in his name.

The award will recognise groups and individuals in Nepal (unsung heroes) who have dedicated their lives for social causes and have demonstrated through their work a high level of concern, care and commitment to address social issues and challenges.

Radio journalist Adhikari conducts programmes to raise awareness about persons with visual impairment and other disabilities. He often uses his radio programmes to train young people on better communication skills. He has also conducted trainings on radio anchoring and journalism.
