KATHMANDU: Living in this world, a person is always struggling against death. This reality of life has become the theme of an upcoming Nepali film Taandro. Directed by Samten Bhutia, the promotional video of the movie was released in an event held on October 11 at Mandala Theatre, Anamnagar.

Taandro is based on the novel Smriti Ka Dobharu by Ganga Bahadur Lama. The novel depicts personal account of Lama, who was a Maoist cadre during the Maoist insurgency in Nepal.

In the movie, actor Dayahang Rai will portray the protagonist Koshish, leader of a cultural troop involved in raising awareness among the villagers regarding the Maoist movement. In one of their missions to a village of Chailung in Lamjung district, Koshish and his unarmed troops are ambushed by the then Royal Nepal Army. Though being shot on his left leg, Koshish manages to escape into the nearby fields. The film portrays the ordeal that Koshish goes through.

“I have tried to depict the human spirit that has been caught between the crosshairs of two powerful forces, life and death, leaving the protagonist wavering between hope and despair,” Bhutia expressed.

Taandro has been selected for 14th Dhaka International Film Festival to be held in 2016.

Meanwhile, Lama who was also present at the event stated, “My book has 128 pages and I believe the director has focused on only those three pages of my book where I struggled between life and death. The movie has focused on philosophy of struggle between life and death. I hope Taandro will get success.”

Saraswati Chaudhary, Maniram Pokhrel, Rambabu Gurung are other actors in the movie.
