At least 33 people were injured in two separate bus accidents on the East-West Highway in two days, with one bus overturning in Dhanusha and another in Nawalparasi.
In Dhanusha, 17 people, including the bus driver, were injured when a passenger bus overturned near the football ground in Mithila Nagarpalika-9 on Sunday morning.
The bus, bearing registration number Bagmati Province 01-006 Kha 5237, was travelling from Kathmandu to Biratnagar. Police said the driver lost control while attempting to overtake another vehicle, causing the bus to flip onto its side.
According to Area Police Office, Dalkebar, the bus was carrying 33 passengers at the time. The injured are receiving treatment at Model Hospital in Lalgarh.
Separately, 16 people were injured when another passenger bus turned turtle in Bardaghat Municipality-4, Nawalparasi, around 7 pm on Saturday evening.
The bus (Na 7 Kha 5820), travelling from Pokhara to Mahendranagar, lost control and overturned on the road.
The injured were rushed to Chisapani Hospital in Bardaghat. Most suffered limb and head injuries, with some passengers in moderate condition.
According to police, the injured include nationals from Kaski, Nawalparasi, Kailali and Tanahun districts, as well as one foreign national.
Police have launched investigations into both incidents.
