33 girls, 11 women raped in 11 months in Saptari

SAPTARI: The Informal Sector Service Centre (INSEC), Saptari has stated that thirty-three girls and eleven women faced sexual assault in Saptari district in the last 11 months.

The human rights non-government organisation shared this information at the annual review seminar organised here on Friday, prior to the publication of incidents of human rights violation and atrocities collected in Saptari district for feeding the Nepal Human Rights Year Book-2019.

As per the information shared on the occasion, 33 incidents of rape of girls and 11 incidents of rape of women, along with 13 incidents of attempted rape against girls and four incidents of attempted rape against women were reported in the district during that period.

The report made public by INSEC representative Manohar Kumar Pokharel states that 33 girls, including a two-year-old and a three-year-old, became victims of rape.

Out of the 43 people accused of raping girls, 17 are under detention and an arrest warrant has been issued against 11 while six are absconding. The accused are between 12 to 65 years of age.

Women between 19 to 70 years have become victims in the 11 rape incidents against them. The 24 persons accused of raping women are between the ages of 17 to 65 years. Among them, 10 are in detention, seven are on the large, an arrest warrant has been issued against six while one has been acquitted.

In the four incidents of sexual harassment on women, four women became victims and five persons have been accused.

Similarly, 13 incidents of sexual harassment on girls were reported in the district in the last 11 months. 16 people are accused in these incidents who are between the ages of 13 to 65 years.
