KATHMANDU, JULY 25

Nepal Police today arrested 36 persons, including one Chinese operator and two Indians, from a 'call centre' in Gairigaun, Tinkune, for operating illegal schemes and swindling rackets through internet.

Kathmandu Metropolitan Police Range, Baneshwor City Police, and Gaushala Metropolitan Police Circle had jointly raided the call centre, Sky World Service Centre, after 'ensuring that it was indulging in illegal activities'.

Those arrested include a Chinese national, Hu Yuehua, 43, who is the management head of the company.

Two Indian nationals - Manoj Saini, 26, and Neha Gupta, 19 - also held top posts in the company. All others arrested are Nepalis, including five women.

Those arrested are accused of hacking mobile phones, blackmailing, sending obscene pictures and videos, and extorting money. Police said they would send messages saying people had won cash or costly gifts and seek money they owed as tax to the government, said Senior Superintendent of Police Bharat Bohora.

This is the second such raid in the past couple of days. Yesterday, police had raided another call centre, Blue Sky Business Solution, in Rupandehi district. One Indian, nine masterminds, and nearly 200 employees were arrested.

In the last week of December 2019, Nepal Police had arrested 122 Chinese nationals from different parts of Kathmandu valley. They were also accused of similar offenses. Later, they were handed over to the Chinese government.
