Dhankuta, January 5
After 48 long years, 55 families of Mudhebas village of Chaubise Rural Municipality of Dhankuta have received land ownership certificates.
Shreemaya Magar of Mudhebas, Ward No 2 of Chaubise Rural Municipality said she was glad that they finally got the land ownership certificate for the land they had been occupying for years. "Over four decades ago, there had been a survey in our locality, but back then they had left our whole area, calling it a village block. Now that we have finally got land ownership documents, I'm very happy," she shared. "It has been a great relief that the government has formally acknowledged our ownership over our property by granting us the ownership document," said another local Tek Bahadur Magar. Earlier, people had faced problems trading their lands and mortgaging them in banks for want of such documents.
According to Land Mapping Office Chief Mithilesh Yadav, mapping of the land in Mudhebas was done two years ago upon learning that people there were deprived of land ownership certificates. "Distributing land ownership paper was possible following the directives of the Department of Land Mapping" Yadav said.
Speaking at a programme held in Mudhebas village to distribute land ownership documents, Chaubise Rural Municipality Chairperson Raj Kumar Chemjong congratulated the receivers of land ownership documents.
Land Mapping Office Dhankuta Chief Yadav, Land Commission Dhankuta Chairperson Bal Bahadur Rai, among others, were present at the distribution programme today.
Apart from Mudhebas of Chaubise Rural Municipality, there were families without land ownership documents at two places in Sangurigadhi Rural Municipality. A total of 28 families of Okhre and Tunkhagaun of Sangurigadhi Rural Municipality were provided land ownership certificates about six months ago.
