KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 23

The 98th meeting of the Kathmandu University (KU) Assembly has formed a seven-member facilitation committee, led by National Planning Commission Member Geeta Kumari Paudyal, to draft a proposal aimed at resolving the ongoing issues between KU and Dhulikhel Hospital.

The meeting, chaired by KU Chancellor and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers on Monday, authorized the committee to present the proposal at the Senate meeting scheduled for January 17. The committee is tasked with conducting necessary discussions and consultations with relevant stakeholders.

The committee includes Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Bhola Thapa, Dean of the School of Medical Sciences Prof. Dr. Manoj Humagain, Dean of the School of Law Dr. Rishikesh Wagle, representing KU, along with Executive Director Dr. Ramkantha Makaju Shrestha, Administrative Director Dr. Biraj Man Karmacharya, and Research Director Prof. Dr. Rajeev Shrestha from Dhulikhel Hospital.

The dispute between the two institutions began after Dhulikhel Hospital expressed dissatisfaction with KU's unilateral decision, which it claimed violated financial and employee regulations.

In addition, the meeting discussed various measures taken to facilitate dialogue and form a consensus between both sides, under the coordination of Minister for Education, Science, and Technology, and KU Pro-Chancellor Bidhya Bhattarai.

The meeting also decided to correct the "grace list," after the names of seven students who did not pass were mistakenly included in the recent convocation list. KU Registrar Dr. Achyut Prasad Wagle informed the assembly that an investigation into the matter is underway, and the students have not yet received their certificates.
