RAJBIRAJ, JANUARY 9

Janata Samajbadi Party-Nepal Chairman Upendra Yadav today said that budget should be allocated on the basis of population.

Talking to locals at Chhinnamasta Rural Municipality, Saptari, Yadav held that development had failed to pick up pace in Madhes due to discrimination in budget allocation.

"Fifty-one per cent of population lives in the Tarai, but sadly, only 16 per cent budget is sanctioned in for the Tarai. Development has not picked up momentum in the Tarai due to allocation of paltry budget," Yadav added.

Stating that the wave of development had started in the district, Yadav urged all and sundry to work to give finishing touches to various projects. He stressed the need to defend republicanism for the promotion of marginalised communities and development of villages.

Yadav accused former prime minister KP Sharma Oli of trying to finish off federalism.

He pledged to extend assistance to the development of backward places in the district. He informed that the government had sanctioned Rs 5 billion compensation for farmers who bore huge loss due the unseasonal rainfall.
