KATHMANDU, AUGUST 14

A flood in the Bichyya River on Wednesday night at Himali Rural Municipality-1 in Bajura district swept away 11 houses.

According to the District Police Office, Bajura, seven additional houses were damaged, while 17 others remain at high risk. Farmland and local shops in Ward No. 1 also sustained significant damage.

Wards 1, 3, and 5 of the rural municipality were the hardest hit, said Police Inspector Dev Bahadur Chaudhary. A police team from the Kawadi Police Post has reached the affected areas to collect data.

In Ward No. 5, the houses of Nawaraj Buda, Devilal Chadara, Birbal Chadara, Ajay Chadara, Heusara Lwar, and Angabir Chadara were completely washed away, Inspector Chaudhary reported. He further noted that the flood also damaged public offices, healthcare centers, schools, and other infrastructure, including a suspension bridge, in Ward No. 1.

A team led by Rural Municipality Chairperson Govinda Bahadur Malla has already arrived in the disaster-hit areas to assess the extent of the destruction and take stock of the victims' immediate needs, said Chief Administrative Officer Kul Bahadur Thapa.

Chairperson Malla stated that an executive meeting will soon determine the relief and rehabilitation measures for those most severely affected by the flood.
