Dharan, June 15

Doctors at the BP Koirala Institute of Health and Sciences have started agitation. The agitation started after the institution sought clarification from Faculty Welfare Society Chairperson Bishnu Pokhrel.

Earlier, the FWS chair had sent an SMS to the chief commissioner of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of authority over irregularities at the institute and appealed to others to do the same.

Over the same issue, the institute's Vice-chancellor Gyanendra Giri had asked Pokhrel to furnish clarification. In a letter to Giri on Sunday, the institute had told him to furnish reasons for not taking action against him within three days for acting against the code of conduct of the institute.

The society has condemned the decision of the institute to seek clarification from a doctor for daring to raise his voice against irregularities. In a show of protest, the faculty, JR and students staged a protest meeting in front of the vice-chancellor's office this morning.

They have warned that they will intensify their agitation if the clarification is not withdrawn within 24 hours.

"The act of seeking clarification from a doctor, who is working for the welfare of the institution, is regrettable," said the society's General Secretary SP Rijal.

Again, the society has accused the institute of violating the standard procedure of having to go through the rector when it has to seek clarification from any faculty member or take action against them.

The institute's Junior Resident Welfare Society Vice-chairperson Padam Nepali demanded that the institute's office bearers also give clarification regarding the problems and mismanagement of the institute.
