Committee looks into complaints

KATHMANDU: A meeting of the High Level Probe Commission of the UCPN-Maoist yesterday dwelt on the complaints filed at the commission in a month's time.

Following the increasing criticism from different sections of the society and from within the party, the central committee meeting of the party held around a month ago had formed the HLPC to probe into the complaints and implement code of conduct within the party rank and file. The last date for the submission of complaints expired last Monday.

One of the eight members of the HLPC Suresh Singh claimed that few vehicles have been returned including that of Sonam Sathi -- a politburo member -- and more leaders were preparing to return their vehicles.

Sources claimed that around 100 complaints were registered that included possession of land and buildings by the leaders, among others. However, Singh refuted it claiming that the commission would submit its reports within the stipulated time of two months.

He further said the HLPC would make the reports public as soon as possible. "We will implement the code of conduct at any cost," Singh claimed.

Another member Lilamani Pokhrel claimed that the party had decided to stop the information related to the probe from going to the media as the latter “have been carrying fabricated reports."

The other members of the HLPC headed by senior vice-chairman Mohan Baidya 'Kiran' include Ram Narayan Bidari, Pampha Bushal, Hitraj Pandey, Netra Bikram Chand 'Biplav' and Krishna Dev Danuwar.
