KATHMANDU, APRIL 9

Vehicular movement along the Daunne section of the Narayangadh–Butwal road has been suspended for four hours daily starting today to accelerate road repairs and widening works ahead of the monsoon.

According to Shiva Khanal, Information Officer at the Narayangadh–Butwal Road Construction Project, the road will remain closed from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm each day until April 13.

From April 14, the road will be closed nightly from 11:00 pm to 5:00 am, a schedule that will remain in effect until April 28. Only essential service vehicles will be allowed to operate during the night closure.

The decision to enforce the closure follows growing concerns over traffic congestion and delays in the ongoing expansion of the around 13-kilometre Daunne stretch, a high-risk and geologically sensitive area. Road widening work in the section involves hillside cutting, wall construction, and culvert installation.

Currently, it takes 5 to 6 hours for vehicles to pass through the stretch due to the combination of narrow roads and heavy machinery operating in the area. To avoid prolonged inconvenience and complete the work before the rainy season, the project team proposed a full closure, which was endorsed by a meeting of Chief District Officers of West Nawalparasi and other concerned stakeholders.
