KATHMANDU, MAY 24

With the onset of rainfall, cases of dengue are on the rise. Fifty-seven districts have now reported dengue infections.

Dr. Gokarna Prasad Dahal, Chief of the Vector Control Section at the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division of the Ministry of Health and Population, shared that the risk of dengue disease has increased as people have begun collecting rainwater in pots and buckets. Mosquitoes breed in such collected water.

A total of 904 dengue cases have been detected across 57 districts. Dr. Dahal urged the adoption of precautions to protect against dengue.

Last year, a total of 51,143 people were affected by dengue infection in 77 districts. The authorities have already directed 33 local levels to conduct campaigns aimed at mosquito control, identifying high-risk areas.

Symptoms of dengue include high fever, headache, body pain, and joint pain.

The Ministry has advised people to sleep under mosquito nets, wear full-sleeve clothing, and keep their surroundings clean to avoid mosquito bites.
