DHARAN, JANUARY 4

Nepali Congress President and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has promised to take his party ahead as a united front.

"It's because of the support of all in the party that I've been elected party president once again, so I'm committed to taking Congress ahead as a united party by getting rid of factionalism," said the NC chief, speaking at a party programme in Dharan.

"NC is leading the present government, and the government can be strong only when the party is united, so we must be united, for which I need the support of one and all in the party," Deuba said, declaring he wouldn't be vying for presidency the next time.

The NC president cited Dharan's case and said the party's victory in the mayoral election in Dharan was evidence of what the party could do as a united force.

Deuba, who was here to inaugurate the three-day Dharan Day, also inaugurated a Garbage Processing Centre at Panawari. The centre is being developed at a cost of 240 million rupees.

The government's Alternative Energy Promotion Centre has provided 40 per cent of the total cost of the project being developed under a partnership project as grant.

He also observed the under-construction smart bus park there.
