Gandaki Province Chief Minister Krishnachandra Nepali Pokhrel has reached Manang to monitor the flood-affected region. CM Pokhrel was accompanied by Physical Planning Minister Dipak Manange.
The provincial government is said to have decided to deposit Rs 50 million in the province-level disaster fund. The fund is meant to be used for post-disaster rescue, relief distribution and management in the province.
A meeting of Gandaki Province-level Crisis Management Executive Committee convened under the chairmanship of CM Pokhrel had decided to allocate the fund for emergency use.
The provincial government's Spokesperson Kumar Khadka said the minister's team flew in a chopper with relief materials. Further, Khadka said the CM had instructed security personnel, elected representatives and government and non-government offices to stay on standby for rescue work amid the possible risk of monsoon-induced disasters.
Many families are said to have been displaced in Manang due to floods in the Marsyangdi as well as other small rivers such as Latte and Chatta. Telecommunication in the region is also said to have been disrupted after the floods damaged a micro hydropower project.
