Government trying to cover up aircraft purchase scam: Paudel

Chitwan, January 18

Senior Nepali Congress leader Ramchandra Paudel today accused the government of trying to cover up details of the wide-body aircraft deal from people.

Speaking at a press meet organised by Chitwan chapter of Nepal Press Union at Bharatpur airport, Paudel alleged that the government was trying to protect those involved in the wide-body aircraft purchase deal, 33 kg gold smuggling case and other corruption scams. He stressed the need to investigate the cases fairly.

Paudel held that his party would do homework to bring the government on track. “People’s voices cannot be suppressed all the time. NC will support people to raise their voices,” Paudel stated. If the government ignores people’s plight, people will unite and hit the streets to make their voices heard, he added.

Paudel also accused the government of ignoring the demands raised by Dr Govind KC.  “The government does not want ensure healthcare access to people from deprived and backward communities,” he added.

When asked about rumours of rift in his party, Paudel said that they were one on democracy, nationality and good governance despite some differences.

“The Maha Samiti meeting of the party has sent the message of unity and this has to reach the lowest tiers of the party,” he noted.

Stating that some of the provinces had yet to get their names and permanent headquarters, Paudel accused the government of failing to implement federalism.
