Govt against statute amendment: Bhandari

Rajbiraj, May 11

Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal Presidium Coordinator Sharat Singh Bhandari today accused the incumbent government of not willing to amend the statute to end all kinds of discrimination in the country.

Speaking at a press meet held in Rajbiraj, Bhandari warned that failure to amend the statute might lead to a mass uprising.

“The government has no choice but to amend the constitution to end disparity prevalent in the country,” Bhandari stated.

He charged that the government was full of arrogance with its two-thirds majority.

“If the government does not solve the problem, it will have to face severe consequences and the two-thirds majority will lose its relevance,” he argued.

Bhandari said that the government had spread the rumour that the statute was acceptable to all people and parties. He also lambasted the government for trying to curtail press freedom.

On a different note, Bhandari ruled out unity of his party with Samajwadi Party Nepal.

“Since Samajwadi Party’s stance on statute amendment is not clear, there is no possibility of unity,” he said.
