House endorses report on stalled Karki impeachment

KATHMANDU: The Parliament on Tuesday unanimously endorsed a report on the proposed impeachment against Lok Man Singh Karki, which was left high and dry in the wake of the Supreme Court's decision that ruled he was ineligible to hold any position in the anti-graft constitutional body.

The report was prepared by the Parliament's Impeachment Recommendation Committee after probing charges against the then Chief of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority.

Lawmaker Ram Narayan Bidari, one of the members of the committee, presented the report before the House today.

IRC had formed a three-member committee, including Bidari of CPN Maoist Centre, Deepak Kuinkel of Nepali Congress and Rewati Raman Bhandari of CPN-UML, to study the charges against Karki, who is accused of corruption and abuse of authority.

The panel had consulted legal experts also over the fate of stalled impeachment process against Karki.

Also, today's House accepted a proposal tabled seeking consideration on the bill relating to additional conditions for remuneration, facilities and services to the Chief Justice, Supreme Court Justices, and judges of the High Court and District Courts, the Rastriya Samachar Samiti reported.

Meanwhile, the House will resume its meeting at 1 pm tomorrow.
