Inundation and floods triggered by incessant rainfall have killed one person and displaced hundreds of families across the Tarai.
Incessant rainfall has inundated hundreds of houses in wards 1,2,4,6,7,8,11,12,16, and 19 in Biratnagar, affecting more than 1,500 families. According to Morang CDO Kashi Raj Dahal, one person was swept away by the Gachhiya khola in Sundarharaincha. The deceased has been identified as Ram Bahadur BK, 58.
Erosion and inundation have put many settlements in peril at Sunbarshi Municipality, Belbari Municipality, and Kerabari, Katahari, Gramthan, and Budhiganga rural municipalities in Morang, said Dahal.
Local levels are carrying out rescue and relief work. "DAO has called an emergency meeting of the Disaster Rescue Committee. We shall manage relief materials and tents for victims at the earliest," added Dahal.
Incessant rainfall has submerged most parts of Jhapa, with Kankai, Ratuwa, Biring, and areas along the Mechi River being the worst hit. According to Red Cross Society in Jhapa, more than 186 families were displaced at Bhadrapur, Shivsatakshi, and Gauradaha municipalities, and Gaurugunj Rural Municipality.
Twenty-six families have been shifted to safer places in Bhadrapur, 33 families have been kept at Tribhuvan Secondary School in Shivsatakshi Municipality, more than 100 families are taking shelter at school and neighbours' houses in Gaurigunj and Barhadashi Municipality.
Incessant rainfall has also thrown life out of gear at several places in Rupandehi.
Rainwater gushed into four houses at Butwal's Jyotinagar, whereas inundation has obstructed sewage and roads at some places. Floodwater has obstructed vehicular movement at Butwal's Golpark, Laxmi Nagar, Traffic Chowk, Hospital Line, and Naya Bus Park areas.
