KATHMANDU, JUNE 27

Amid budget announcements across the country, Tarai-Madhes-centric parties backing the KP Sharma Oli-led government have begun to express dissatisfaction with their support for the government.

The Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP-N) Nepal, led by Upendra Yadav, has dropped its support for the Lumbini provincial government. Ambika Kafle, a provincial assembly member representing the party, stated that the support was withdrawn because the provincial government failed and the budget lacked good governance and inclusiveness.

Kafle stated that she informed the Speaker that she had withdrawn her support for the government led by Chief Minister Chet Narayan Acharya, in accordance with Article 188, Clause 2 of Nepal's Constitution, which allows for the withdrawal of support for the provincial government.

Kafle was the only JSP-N provincial legislator among the 87 members of the provincial assembly. Following the party split, the other legislators joined the Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP), which is led by Ashok Rai.

Similarly, the Janamat Party, led by CK Raut, has expressed discontent with the current government. The party that has led the Madhes Province government has expressed dissatisfaction with Madhes' own budget. The party has stated that it will hold a party meeting on Sunday to make a decision about the government.

Following the review of the red book, Janamat Chairperson CK Raut expressed his displeasure on social media, writing, "Regarding the Madhes government's red book: I am also a victim like you, and the party is always with you," on Facebook. The Madhes government's red book for the fiscal year 2025-26 has arrived. On closer examination, it appears that we have been deprived of the Janamat party's policies, principles, and vision."

However, Janamat Party spokesperson Sharad Singh Yadav stated that his party has not made any decision to withdraw its support for the government.

The Nagarik Unmukti Party, whose patron is Resham Chaudhary, is also critical of the current government. The party has been unable to make a firm decision regarding the government due to a schism between party chairperson Ranjita Shrestha and patron Resham Chaudhary.

The Loktantrik Samajwadi Party-Nepal (LSP-N), led by Mahantha Thakur, is also dissatisfied with the government's performance. However, the party has yet to comment on the possibility of leaving or withdrawing from the government.

Meanwhile, seven Tarai Madhes-based parties that make up the Federal Democratic Front have expressed their dissatisfaction with the government. The front has begun preparations for the movement because its demands are not being met.

Anil Mahaseth, a leader of the Rastriya Mukti Party, which is also part of the front, stated that the front is clearly dissatisfied with government work and some recent developments, including the budget.

"Prior to budget sessions, the front had made a few budget and programme recommendations. However, it appears that front members are unhappy with the government's actions. So this could lead to a decision similar to what the Upendra Yadav-led party made in Lumbini today," Mahaseth said.
