Independent candidate Lama wins parliamentary seat from Humla

KATHMANDU: Independent candidate Chhaka Bahadur Lama has won parliamentary seat from Humla's only parliamentary constituency. Lama ran independently after the CPN-Maoist Centre, to which he was affiliated, refused to award him election ticket.

Lama secured 8,491 votes against 8,444 votes garnered by his closet contender of Nepali Congress' Mangal Bahadur Shahi. Lama is the CPN-MC's politburo member.

Left alliance candidate Chhimi Dorje Lama could garner just 2,700 votes.

After his election, Lama said: "The locals approved my agenda to link the district with roads, and upgrade Simikot airport and Nepal-Hilsa transit point, and made me victorious."
