Expresses hope for peace, stability under PM Sushila Karki

KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 12

India has welcomed the formation of Nepal's new interim government under Prime Minister Sushila Karki, expressing confidence that the move will foster peace and stability in the country.

In a statement issued Friday, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs said, "We welcome the formation of a new Interim Government in Nepal, led by Right Honourable Mrs. Sushila Karki. We are hopeful that this would help in fostering peace and stability."

The ministry further affirmed India's commitment to its longstanding partnership with Nepal, adding that as a close neighbour, a fellow democracy, and a long-term development partner, India will continue to work closely with Nepal for the well-being and prosperity of both nations.

Karki, Nepal's first woman prime minister, was sworn in Friday night after President Ram Chandra Paudel dissolved the House of Representatives and declared a state of emergency. Her government is mandated to conduct new parliamentary elections within six months, following weeks of Gen-Z–led protests that demanded a non-partisan administration.
