KATHMANDU, JUNE 20
The Embassy of India in Nepal, in collaboration with the Lumbini Development Trust, organised a large-scale Yoga demonstration today at Lumbini, the sacred birthplace of Lord Buddha and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to mark the 11th International Day of Yoga.
The event was attended Lumbini Province Governor Krishna Bahadur Gharti, and Nepal's Minister for Youth and Sports, Teju Lal Chaudhary, as chief guests. They thanked the Indian Embassy for hosting the significant celebration in Lumbini and lauded its efforts in strengthening the deep-rooted cultural ties between the two neighbours, according to the press release issued by the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu.
Ambassador of India to Nepal, Naveen Srivastava, emphasized the global reach of Yoga since the United Nations declared June 21 as the International Day of Yoga in 2014. He noted that Lumbini, a universal symbol of peace and harmony, serves as a meaningful setting for honouring Yoga's timeless values. He also expressed gratitude to the Lumbini Development Trust for supporting the event and promoting Lumbini as a spiritual destination.

Over 500 Yoga practitioners from the region took part in the demonstration, which is one of several events being held across Nepal by the Indian Embassy to celebrate the global Yoga movement, the release further stated.
The celebrations will continue with a mega Yoga demonstration at Pokhara Rangsala Stadium tomorrow, organised jointly by the Embassy of India and Pokhara Metropolitan City, the embassy added.
