KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 17
The Embassy of Israel in Nepal facilitated a two-week volunteer mission of Heroes for Life, the Israeli NGO, in which 68 volunteers from Israel worked across eight government and public schools in the Kathmandu valley as well as Tulasi Foundation.
The delegation was divided into two groups of 34 vounteers each, working in four schools per group. The two delegations honoured the memory of First Sergeant Amit Most, who was killed in the October 7 Hamas Terrorist attack, and Tamar Ariel, who tragically lost her life while trekking in the Annapurna region of Nepal.
The initiative focused on two main areas: i. introducing fun and creative learning activities to encourage students to think outside the box and ii. Carrying out school renovation projects, including painintg and creating artistic murals. Each year, Heroes for Life returns to the same schools with different volunteers, bringing fresh perspectives and renewed energy to ensuring continuity and a lasting impact while also finding new schools to extend their volunteerism. This year, 3 more schools are added to the program, further expanding its outreach.
In addition to school activities, the volunteers dedicated a full day to community service at the Tulasi Foundation in Lalitpur, led by Ms. Saru Subedi, who had previously worked in Israel. The volunteers spent the day with children under the care of the foundation, and engaged in painting and renovation of the organization.
This collaborative effort not only addresses educational goals but also fosters people-to-people connection between Nepalis and Israelis. The enduring friendship between Nepal and Israel has been showcased once again through "Heroes for Life."
Ambassador Shmulik Arie Bass, Ambassador of Israel expressed pride in the openhearted approach of the volunteers, the participating schools and the collaborating organization that helped facilitate the mission. He said, "Israel will always be ready to assist Nepal. Giving to friends means much more to us, Israelis."
Heroes for Life is an Israeli organization, operating in 18 countries around the world and started volunteering in Nepal since 2017. The organization harnesses the commitment of Israeli soldiers traveling after their military service, who pause their journeys to contribute a bit of their talents to communities they visit.
