Kanchanpur killing: Authority suspends demos in Punarbas

DHANGADHI: The Kanchanpur District Administration Office on Saturday imposed a restriction on any demonstration and assembly in Punarbas Municipality of Kanchanpur district as protests against India continued unabated on the third consecutive day.

Local Govinda Gautam was killed in a fire opened by Indian border security force personnel on Thursday.

Chief District Officer Manohar Prasad Khanal said the restriction would continue till the next notice.

He said the District Security Committee was forced to take the decision to contain the situations as hundreds of Nepalis from various parts of the district as well as Kailali thronged the Ananda Bazaar area to protest the killing.

Postmortem yet to be held

Meanwhile, the kin of the victim have been refusing to send the body for postmortem demanding the government immediately hand over a copy of the decision about declaring Gautam a martyr.

CDO Khanal said he had asked the Ministry of Home Affairs to send the copy.

Earlier, the family had been refusing to collect the body demanding that he be declared a martyr, the family be provided a due compensation and his children be provided free education.

It is noteworthy that India has asked Nepal to provide it with reports of postmortem and other forensic examinations for an investigation into the case.
