Lack of doctors affects health services

Dadeldhura, September 8

Health services at Dadeldhura Hospital have been affected after the doctors there were transferred under staff adjustment process.

As many as 12 doctors were working in the hospital, but now, three doctors are providing health services to patients while nine doctors have already left for their assigned duty stations.

Medical Director of the hospital Jitendra Kandel said health services had been badly affected with the number of patients increasing every day while the doctors were being sent away in the name of staff adjustment. “The hospital has not been able to provide health service to patients effectively  as the assigned doctors are yet to reach the hospital,” he added. Thus, patients are compelled to receive service in private clinics due to lack of doctors in the hospital.

Tek Bahadur Khadka, a local, said the crowd of patients had increased in the hospital, but there was no doctor there. “Thus, patients are compelled to receive treatment from expensive private clinics,” he said.

Patients from far away hilly districts Baitadi, Darchula, Bajhang and Doti visit Dadeldhura Hospital for treatment. The hospital source said as many as 200 patients reached the hospital daily.

Kandel said service delivery had also been affected due to lack of doctors. He said no initiative had been taken from either the department concerned or the ministry even though they had been informed about the problems.
