Lichhavi-era stone wall found during excavation

A team deployed from the Department of Archaeology, carrying out excavation of the remains of a Lichhavi-era palace at Shreerampati of Panchkhal Municipality in Kavre, discovered a 24-inch tall stone wall during excavation of the palace area.

The team from the archaeology department started excavation of the Licchavi-era palace one-anda-half months ago.

Officer Bishnu Prasad Pathak of the department said some parts of the stone wall were found.

“More facts about the palace will emerge after further excavation,” said Pathak.

After locals found pieces of utensils, foundation of a house, some bricks and coins while planting crops, they had demanded preservation of the heritage.

The team led by Pathak has six members and engineers.

According to elderly people, Mandev Durbar, Ranipokhari well, stone spout, Ranipokhari area were spread over 12 ropani land in Panchkhal area.

Earlier, the team from the archaeology department had carried out preliminary study.

According to Pathak, evidences gathered during the preliminary study show that the artefacts found were from the Lichhavi-era.

“The evidences are from fifth, sixth, seventh, and eight centuries of the Lichhavi-era,” Pathak added.
