DHANKUTA, AUGUST 13
Minister of Drinking water, Irrigation and Energy Ram Kumar Rai of Province 1 inaugurated a lift drinking water project amidst a programme organised in Bhedetar Rural Municipality, Dhankuta, yesterday.
With the inauguration of the project, drinking water will be supplied to the locals of Bhedetar on a regular basis. Water was lifted up to 750 metres height at Kharkadanda. The project was supported by Drinking Water and Sanitation Division Office, Dhankuta, and the province government.
The project was completed at a cost of Rs three crore, seventy-five lakh. Drinking water is being supplied to Bhedetar Bazaar through a 10,000-litre capacity water tank constructed at Ramitedanda.
According to the rural municipality, more than 300 households have directly benefited from the project at Bhadetar Bazaar, Kanphek, Karkichhap and Sanguri, among other places.
Hotel entrepreneurs had to buy drinking water at Rs 2 per litre, earlier.
Govinda Thapa, treasurer of Bhedetar Drinking water and Sanitation Management Committee, said the water was being distributed through pumping system.
The water is being supplied to 160 households now.
Sangurigadi Rural Municipality Chairman Jitendra Rai said that the distribution of water would be expanded for one hundred new households soon.
