KATHMANDU, MAY 02

With an aim of forming a single majority government in the province, Lumbini Chief Minister (CM) Shankar Pokhrel who is PM KP Sharma Oli's close confidante, tendered his resignation, today.

CM Pokharel resigned after an alliance of provincial lawmakers of Nepali Congress, Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist Centre and Janata Samajbadi Party-Nepal registered a no-trust motion against him with signatures of 41 lawmakers on April 19.

Likewise, motion was scheduled to be discussed in the assembly later today.

Meanwhile, all opposition parties have proposed Maoist Centre lawmaker Kul Prasad KC as the new CM.

CM Pokhrel's resignation has already been approved by Provincial Head Dharma Nath Yadav pursuant to Article 169 (1) (a) of the Constitution.
