RAJBIRAJ, JULY 31

A man, who was severely thrashed two weeks back, died in Rajbiraj-based Chhinamasta Hospital in Saptari today.

A neighbour, Sukamariya Devi's son Umakanta, had thrashed Bauli Chaudhary, 50, of Khadak Municipality in his own house two weeks ago. Chaudhary had received deep cut in his head. Doctors at Biratnagar-based Neuro Hospital advised the relatives to take Chaudhary home as treatment was impossible.

The family members took Chaudhary to Chhinamasta Hospital for treatment just two days ago. The deceased's elder daughter Chandra Rekha said that Sukamariya invited Bauli, Bhim Ram and Jit Kumar Ram to have prasad at his home on July 13. She said that Sukamariya's son Udayakanta thrashed Chaudhary with a stick when the trio was having Prasad.

She added that Umakanta escaped the scene after the incident. "The injured was immediately taken to a local clinic and a Lahan-based health facility and finally to the Biratnagar-based Neuro Hospital," she added.

Chaudhary is survived by two daughters and a son. His son Rabindra is employed abroad. The two daughters were unconscious till this evening. Chandra Rekha said in tears that they had become orphans after the murder of their father. She demanded stern action against the accused.

Police said that the murder accused Udayakanta was arrested the next day after the incident. Further investigation into the case is under way, said police.
