Kathmandu, March 26

Yuichiro Miura, a renowned alpinist, skier and adventurer, has been appointed Japan’s friendship ambassador to Nepal on the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan appointed Miura as friendship ambassador to Nepal to promote bilateral exchanges and friendship between Nepal and Japan.

Miura has a close relationship with Nepal, having skied down Mt Everest and scaled the peak three times, the third time breaking the record at the age of 80, read a press statement issued by the Embassy of Japan. Miura also acts as Goodwill Ambassador for the World Food Programme and was active in the aftermath of last year’s devastating earthquakes, collecting donations for much-needed supplies. She has long been encouraging friendship between the two countries.

Similarly, the foreign ministry of Japan also chose a logo to commemorate the 60th anniversary of bilateral ties between the two countries. The logo unites Japan’s national flower sakura and Nepal’s national flower rhododendron with a mountain from each country to represent the friendship between Nepal and Japan.
