KATHMANDU, JUNE 30

Agro-experts have underlined the need to mechanise and commercialise the agriculture sector and pay attention to good storage facility and marketing in a bid to enhance production of agro-based products.

In a webinar organised today by Nepal Renewable Energy Confederation of Nepal, participants opined they could get abundant yield from the agriculture sector, provided authorities considered the factors of equipping human resources with skills development and devise hassle-free procedures for farmers for obtaining grant and loan.

They also said agro-production could be augmented considering the use of organic manure, reuse of kitchen waste to produce manure, management of solar-powered irrigation facilities (renewable energy) in those places that lack regular irrigation facilities, among others.

Former minister Ganesh Shah said technology and equipment should be provided to farmers at subsidised rate and farmers' capacity should be enhanced in a bid to achieve bumper yield.

"For processing, drying and storing agriculture products, one should prioritise the use of renewable energy such as micro-hydro plants, solar energy mini-grid, wind energy, solar PV, solar thermal that are easily available," said Shah.
