MUGU: Karkiwada Village Development Committee has been declared a model VDC free from racial disparity and untouchabilty. This is the first time ward no 5 and 6 in the VDC inhabited by dalits and non-dalits have been declared as a settlement free from the social evil based on caste system.

A social organisation in the district has been coordinating the declaration and is planning to declare ward 1 to 4 of the VDC as vicinities free from the social evil too. Keshar Bahadur KC, Chief District Officer, inaugurated the declaration programme of freeing villages from the social evils of untouchablity and ethnic disparity.

Chiefs of government offices, representatives of political parties, representatives of local organisations were also present at the programme. The participants were offered tea and snacks prepared by so-called dalits.

Local Shersingh BK said the declaration proved that people belonging to all caste and ethnicity are equal.

Hasta Bahadur Karki, a local too hopes that so called dalits and non-dalits will not quarrel anymore at water taps.
