‘NC precluded consensus govt’

Rautahat, August 10

Senior CPN-UML leader Madhav Kumar Nepal on Wednesday accused Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba of precluding the process of forming a consensus government by airing irresponsible remarks.

Speaking to journalists at Gaur Nursing Home Institute in Mudbalwa, Rautahat Constituency No 1, Nepal said, “Consensual government is the need of the hour, but the same couldn’t materialise just because the president of the largest party is against it and is airing remarks such as the two largest parties cannot be on board the government together.”

“In fact, it was a mistake on the part of the NC to stay out of the UML-led government in the past and now the party’s chief is making another mistake by airing remarks against consensus government, which is sure to cost the nation dearly, as without UML in government, the incumbent coalition will be in for a rude awakening when it sets its hand to resolve the complex issues long encumbering the country,” he reasoned.

Nepal also lashed out at CPN-Maoist Centre Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal for being rash in tabling a no-confidence motion against the KP Sharma Oli-led government. “Registering the no-confidence motion at a time when the then PM was doing his best to turn his government into a national consensus government has pushed the country into more crisis,” he argued.

Further, reiterating the need for consensus among political stakeholders to implement the constitution and for republicanism and federalism and elections to the local bodies, he spoke against the recent concept of gaunpalika. “The concept was introduced after the fashion of municipality by effacing villages. This is not good as it will deprive people of their rights,” the leader remarked.

Nepal also underscored the need to stamp out corruption from the country. Nepal is scheduled to

visit villages of his constituency till tomorrow to monitor the situation there and devise and develop plans for the constituency in this fiscal.
