Active caseload drops below 69,000

Nepal's coronavirus caseload reached 608,472 on Sunday with 1,694 more people testing positive for the infection.

This is the lowest daily-infections recorded in the country since April 19 wherein 1227 cases had been reported. On April 18, over a thousand cases had surfaced after a gap of four months. The highest single-day total logged in Nepal was on May 11, where 9317 infections were logged.

Meanwhile, the total coronavirus recoveries stand at 531,105 with 3,994 discharges recorded today.

In the past 24 hours, 46 more Covid-related fatalities were logged, taking the total death toll to 8,412.

As per the latest data provided by the health ministry, 12,406 total tests were conducted in the last 24 hours of which 7,517 were PCR tests while 4,889 were antigen tests. With this, a total of 3,214,725 PCR tests have been carried out till date.

Similarly, antigen tests have confirmed 713 positive cases in the past 24 hours. The total number of single-day infections from both the RT-PCR and antigen tests add up to 2,407.

Nepal's Covid-19 recovery rate climbed to 87.3 % on Sunday, as compared to 86.9 % on Saturday. On the other hand the fatality rate stands at 1.6 %.

The country's active Covid-19 case count has dropped to 68,955 with daily recoveries exceeding daily infections.

In the same time frame, 483 infections were reported in the capital city while Lalitpur and Bhaktapur reported 112 and 58 cases respectively.

There are 548 individuals in various quarantine facilities across Nepal.

So far, a total of 3,074,592 people have received coronavirus vaccine across the country, of which 2,383,098 have received the first dose while only 691,494 individuals have been inoculated with both the doses and are fully vaccinated.

On Saturday, Nepal's coronavirus case count reached 606,778 with 2,382 more people testing positive for the infection.

Globally, over 176 million people have been infected by the novel coronavirus while 3.8 million people have lost their lives to the disease.

Likewise, over 160 million people have recovered while more than 12 million cases are still active.
