Talks focus on trade, tourism, investment and security cooperation

KATHMANDU, MAY 15

Dhan Bahadur Oli, Nepal's Ambassador to Thailand, held a meeting on Thursday with Urasa Mongkolnavin to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation.

According to the Embassy of Nepal in Thailand, the meeting with the Director-General of the Department of South Asian, Middle East and African Affairs under Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand focused on expanding collaboration in trade, investment, tourism, culture, agriculture and education.

The two sides also reviewed progress on eight Memoranda of Understanding signed last year and stressed their effective implementation.

Discussions also covered easing visa procedures and enhancing tourism services on a reciprocal basis, along with strengthening cooperation in combating human trafficking, money laundering and cybercrime through information sharing.

Both sides exchanged views on the early conclusion of proposed agreements on agricultural cooperation and mutual legal assistance in criminal matters.

They further discussed holding the next meeting of the Nepal-Thailand Joint Consultative Mechanism in Nepal on a mutually convenient date.

The Embassy stated that both countries reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing cooperation at regional and multilateral levels, including extending mutual support in international forums.

The meeting also explored ways to boost bilateral trade by strengthening value chains and leveraging complementarities between Nepali and Thai products, including integrating Himalayan and ocean-based goods and services.
