BAJURA, OCTOBER 19
A new mother died due to excessive bleeding in Budhiganga Municipality in Bajura.
Chief of Health Department in the municipality Dipak Sha said that Nitu Jaisi, 20, of the municipality died due to excessive bleeding after she gave birth to a baby girl on Monday. Relatives had taken Nitu to Tante Health Post on October 17.
Nitu gave birth to the baby on the same day at 4:30pm.
Health post in-charge Chhatra Thapa said Nitu's health was normal and she had no problems during delivery. He added that the health post discharged Nitu as everything was normal.
Thapa said that the relatives forced the health post administration to discharge Nitu despite the health post's request. The health post requested the relatives not to take Nitu home as it was too early. He said that Nitu was brought back to the health post after excessive bleeding immediately after she reached home. Thapa added that Nitu died 20 minutes after reaching the health post.
"We tried out best but could not save Nitu as it was too late," he said.
There is a provision for keeping new mothers in the health post for eight to 24 hours after delivery. A health worker said that the health post sent Nitu home two hours after delivery.
Sha said that the health post should not have sent Nitu home despite relatives' request. He added that Nitu could be saved if she was at the health facility. It is said that no experienced health worker provided delivery service to Nitu.
