Japanese aid

KATHMANDU: Japan on Monday decided to extend a grant of $ 91,751 to Kanya Campus in Pokhara for constructing a female students’ hostel there. The assistance is being provided under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects scheme of the government of Japan.The grant contract was signed on Monday between the Japanese Ambassador to Nepal Tsutomonu Hiraoka and Surendra Bahadur Bharijoo, the chief of the campus. — HNS

Police nab rapist

RAUTAHAT: Police arrested one on Monday for raping two girls. Three persons had raped two girls aged 9 and 10 in Debahi VDC-8, Rautahat, on Friday. The two accomplices of the arrested man is absconding. The girls had gone into a nearby forest to collect grass, the police said. Ram Bishwas has been nabbed. Jaya Narayan Yadav and Bijanray Yadav are absconding. — HNS

Road blocked

Panchthar: Traffic halted on Ilam-Phidim road section of Mechi highway due to landslide on Monday. The road was blocked by stones and soil trickling down from 25 metres above the road.— HNS

Girls rescued

BIRATNAGAR: Four Nepali girls were rescued from being sold into slavery in India on Sunday by ABC Nepal, a nongovernmental organisation working to control girls’ trafficking. Gita Kalakheti of Sankhuwasabha, Pavitra Gurung, Tara Karki of Dharan and Savitri BK of Sindhuli were rescued from Jogbani on the Indian border by the Rani border police post officials. After the police stopped the girls, they said that Madan Adhikari, resident of Itahari-7, had lured them with offers of jobs elsewhere. Adhikari, who grabbed Rs 1 lakh rupees from them, had promised to send them to Kuwait and Oman via Delhi. — HNS
