Five hurt in mishap
PYUTHAN: Five persons were hurt injured when a jeep bound for Swargadwari Ashram met with an accident at the Khalang bazaar on Friday. SI Shyam Gyawali, manager of Pyuthan branch of Nepal Bank Limited Narayan Prasad Shrama, wife of district election officer Sunita Bhusal, head constable Indra Bahadur BC and cop Man Singh Kunwar were hurt. — HNS
Inmates on strike
NEPALGUNJ: Inmates of the Banke District Prison have begun a strike on Friday by locking the main gate of the prison with a ‘’human lock’’. Inmates Narayan Kunwar and Sushil Kuwar announced a ‘’human lockout’’ of the jail from Friday by piercing their hands with an iron rod. They have been demanding general amnesty, proper facilities and reforms in the jail. Jail in-charge Shyamlal Lamichhane said the demands that could be met at the local level have already been met. He said he has written to the centre about other demands of the inmates that require policy level decision from the centre. — RSS
Dysentery kills three
Siraha: Three persons of a family died of dysentery over the last 48 hours in Siraha district. A local Narayan Yadav said health workers were on a strike for a week demanding guarantee of security and there was no one to attend to the persons afflicted with dysentery. Due to the absence of health workers, Silorwapachhbari resident Bijuli Miyan’s son Hasan, wife Mariam Khatun and father Waheed Miyan died of dysentery. Waheed and Mariam died on Thursday, while Hasan died on Friday, said Bijuli Miyan. Over 24 persons in the village are afflicted with dysentery, locals said. District public health office chief Dr Raj Kumar Chaudhari said health workers were on strike. — HNS
Cops rescue guard
BIRGUNJ: Police on Friday rescued Bhagwan Das Raut, a guard of a temple at Katti Baluwa of Parsa’s Surjaha VDC, 12 hours after his abduction by the Janatantrik Terai Mukti Morcha-G. Das was rescued from Mudali VDC, said police inspector at Pokha-riya Area Police Office Bamdev Gautam. A police team led by DSP Shaurav Bikram Rana had been mobilised to search for Das soon after the police got the winds of abduction. — RSS
Mahat opens bank
Syangja: Finance Minister Dr Ram Saran Mahat said on Friday that economic sovereignty will make people as well as the nation sovereign. He said this while inaugurating Garima Development Bank Limited in Waling Bazaar. Mahat said banks help collect capital scattered in rural areas. “As the incidents of bandhs and extortion have been adversely affecting the national economy, the political parities should not be involved in such acts,” Mahat said. — HNS
