KATHMANDU, JULY 5
The major political parties represented in the Parliament have agreed to form a special parliamentary committee to investigate the tampering of the 'cooling-off period' provision in the Federal Civil Service Bill.
Santosh Pariyar, Chief Whip of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), informed that the consensus was reached during a meeting held at Speaker Dev Raj Ghimire's residence today, which was attended by chief whips and whips of five major political parties.
The committee will consist of two members from the Nepali Congress and two from the CPN-UML, along with one member each from the CPN (Maoist Centre), the Rastriya Swatantra Party, and the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP).
The committee has been mandated to submit its report within 21 days of formation. The Parliamentary Procedure Advisory Committee will finalize the members and present their names at the next session of the House of Representatives.
Although the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee of the House had endorsed the bill with a two-year cooling-off period, the final version enacted by the Lower House included an altered provision, sparking widespread concern.
