Parties vow to keep peace during polls

Different political parties in Khotang district have expressed commitment to ensure that the upcoming local level elections are held peacefully across the district.

Leaders of various political parties sat for a meeting with the election officer in the Diktel-based District Coordination Committee Assembly Hall today and said they were committed to making the upcoming elections successful.

The district leaders held that the election was the only way to solve the country’s problems. They also said that it was the responsibility of every person to make the elections successful. Chief Election Officer and District Judge Shanti Prasad Acharya urged the political parties to maintain the peace during elections.

Nepali Congress Khotang secretary Ichhuram Rana said the party was committed to holding the  elections in a fearless environment. CPN-UML Deputy Secretary Kumar Acharya said the party would help keep the peace during elections. Similarly, Dhruba Budhathoki, in-charge of the CPN-Maoist Centre, also expressed the party’s commitment to keep the peace during polls.

Similarly, election officers deployed in the two municipalities and eight rural municipalities of the district urged the parties to help them educate voters. “Errors caused while casting the ballot is projected to be high. We must do all we can together to reduce this error,” said the election officer for Jantedhunga Rural Municipality.
