Prime Minister implements major downsizing of office, repealing majority of appointments effective immediately

KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 27

Prime Minister Sushila Karki has drastically reduced her secretariat, retaining only six staff members from the current complement of 20, according to a statement from the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers.

The downsized secretariat will comprise one chief advisor, one public relations advisor, one chief personal secretary, one press coordinator, one personal section officer (photographer) and one public health expert (honorary). Prime Minister Karki has repealed all remaining appointments effective immediately.

The reduction represents a significant departure from standard staffing structures. Under the Prime Minister's Advisor and Secretariat Management Procedures 2074 (Eleventh Amendment 2081), 66 sanctioned positions are authorised for the Prime Minister's Secretariat. When Karki initially assumed office, she appointed staff to only the most essential positions, establishing a 20-member secretariat. The latest decision cuts this further by two-thirds.
