Police destroy Thakle marijuana plantation

Okhaldhunga, November 7

Police destroyed marijuana plantations at Hilepani of Thakle VDC in Okhaldhunga yesterday.

A police team comprising 46 personnel, led by Inspector Dipak Kumar Sah, destroyed the marijuana plants cultivated in around 400 ropani land in Hilepani. Inspector Sah said a farmer was found to have cultivated marijuana in the land.

The destroyed cannabis are estimated to have been worth ten million rupees. Local farmers had run away from their homes when the police reached the plantation site.

Local Shyama Kumari Rai said a farmer was earning up to five lakh rupees per year through sale of marijuana. Another farmer Gaur Bahadur Rai said people from across the Sunkoshi River would procure the produce for up to Rs 1,500 per kg.

Police said it had taken them a long time to find the plantation site as Hilepani is an isolated place.
