Prez Bhandari stresses on quality education

Kavre, March 11

President Bidhya Devi Bhandari today said highly skilled graduates from universities alone could bring about economic revolution in the country.

Addressing the silver jubilee inauguration ceremony of Kathmandu University in Dhulikhel, President Bhandari said since the new statute had institutionalised democratic republic and brought the transitional phase to an end, highly skilled graduates from universities were needed to expedite economic development.

Bhandari urged the universities to compete with each other for quality education. “A university has to work to eliminate malpractices seen in educational sector by keeping its management effective and efficient,” she said.

She stressed on the need to provide skill-based, practical, scientific and affordable education to students.

On a different note, Bhandari expressed concern about youths’ exodus to foreign lands in search of quality education. She held that universities should impart quality education to retain youths.

“Youths are fleeing the country in pursuit of quality education. We have to develop the country as an educational hub, retain youths and attract foreigners,” she said.

Every educational institution should focus on personality development while designing the curriculum and launching it, said Bhandari.

Prime Minister and Chancellor of the varsity KP Sharma Oli expressed confidence that KU would develop as a centre of excellence in the education sector in near future. “Education is indispensable to development and progress.

Thus, an educational curriculum should promote these qualities,” Oli added.

He said he was working to change the existing system of the state’s prime minister occupying the post of chancellor at the varsity.
