KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 27
President Ramchandra Paudel has called on the private sector to invest in infrastructure, emphasizing the vital role of the private sector in development.
According to the President, Nepal's tourism industry could be further improved and established as a reliable means of income generation and prosperity.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony of the Seventh Baglung Festival organized by the Baglung Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Wednesday, the Head of State stated that Nepal deserves income generation leveraging its tourism potential, for which robust infrastructures are imperative.
He urged the authorities concerned to accelerate the construction of the Mid-Hill Highway. Paudel emphasized that Baglung, also known as 'the district of suspension bridges' and 'Buttenali,' an artistically engraved cane, should focus on fostering economic activities.
Paudel took the opportunity to recall the time when he spent four months in imprisonment in the district during the 1990 people's movement. "I feel, at the moment, that I am at home," he said.
The President also praised the organizers for hosting the event, aiming to develop socio-economic, cultural, and touristic aspects in Baglung and adjoining areas. "Baglung not only serves as a vibrant place for political awakening but also a naturally highly decorated region."
However, he expressed concern over the relatively low number of tourists compared to the richness of the district. He suggested that additional points such as agro-products and medicinal herbs need further publicity.
Addressing the event, Chitra Bahadur KC, Chairperson of Rastriya Janamorcha, expressed frustration over the slow construction of the Kaligandaki corridor and Mid-Hill Highway. He also demanded that the government take action against those causing delays in the projects.
