KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 21
The Prithvi Highway is expected to reopen to traffic by Sunday evening after a 40-hour blockage at the Muglin–Narayangadh section caused by landslides, according to the Department of Roads.
Spokesperson Prabhat Kumar Jha said clearance work is under way at both the Muglin–Narayangadh stretch and the Araniko Highway. "Traffic on the Prithvi Highway should resume this evening, while the Araniko Highway may reopen within three days if heavy rain does not return," he noted.
The department said a large number of passengers remain stranded. Ten highways, including the Prithvi, Araniko, Thori–Bhandara–Makekhu, Galchhi–Trishuli–Betrabati–Mailung–Syaphrubesi–Rasuwagadhi, Rani–Biratnagar–Itahari–Dharan–Dhankuta–Hile and the Koshi Highway (Leghuwaghat–Tulingtar–Khandbari–Num–Kimathanka), are fully closed, while one-way traffic has resumed on 168 other routes.
