Rajbiraj locals submit memo

Rajbiraj, March 20

Locals of Rajbiraj Municipality submitted a memorandum to the chief district officer, expressing dissatisfaction with the local bodies’ restructuring and adjustment of village development committees in the municipality, in Saptari, today.

The dissatisfied locals handed over the memo to CDO Krishna Bahadur Katwal, who received it on behalf of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, warning that it would announce fresh agitation if the restructuring was not corrected at the earliest.

“Some of the VDCs and wards that have been merged with the municipality are in far-flung locations. It is highly inconvenient to get state services with the current model,” said locals.

The Rajbiraj Municipal Boundary Reform Struggle Committee was formed during a mass gathering of municipality denizens yesterday to pile pressure on the government.

“We submitted the memo as per our first phase of protest. If the authority doesn’t heed it at the earliest, we will hit the street,” warned Sailesh Chaudhary, former mayor and coordinator of the struggle committee.
