RAUTAHAT, SEPTEMBER 21

Classes at community schools across Rautahat were disrupted for the second day in a row today after teachers headed to Kathmandu to participate in the collective protest against the education bill prepared by the federal government.

Teachers have been holding Kathmandu-centric protest since yesterday after Nepal Teachers' Federation issued its 18-point disagreement with the education bill registered by the government in the Parliament.

Rautahat has a total of 435 community schools spread over all 18 local levels.

As teachers at the schools have headed to partake in the protest in the capital, classes at these schools have been disrupted.

Various social activists have affirmed the democratic rights of the teachers to peacefully struggle for their welfare, but pointed out that it was wrong for them to play with the future of thousands of schoolchildren by depriving them of their rights.

Local social activist Shyamchandra Jha rued the effect of the teachers' action on students' life.

In fact, Rautahat's Baudhimai Municipality Mayor Pradip Kumar Yadav had earlier issued an appeal to the teachers not to disrupt classes, but to no avail.
