The second round of Covid-19 vaccination drive is likely to commence from May 15, wherein China donated 'Vero Cell' jab will be administered.
District Administration Office of Kathmandu has decided to recommend all the concerned units to kick-off the second round of the programme from May 15. The DAO has also decided to recommend extension of lockdown period in the valley by 15 more days keeping in mind the steady rise in intraday infection count in the valley which has not come under control despite imposition of regulatory measures.
People received the first dose of China developed vaccine on April 9. As many as 800,000 doses of Vero Cell vaccine had arrived in Kathmandu on March 29 in a widebody airplane of the national flag carrier, which had gone to Beijing to ferry the vaccines back home.
The vaccine, which is manufactured by the Beijing Institute of Biological Products Co Ltd (BIBP), China, under Sinopharm, was approved for emergency use against Covid-19 in Nepal on February 17. It has already received approval from the World Health Organisation to be used for emergency purposes.
DAO has decided to send a letter regarding the second phase of vaccination to all ward offices.
It has been decided that concerned agencies will be asked to make necessary security arrangements during the second phase of Vero cell vaccination drive in Kathmandu Valley. It has been recommended that coupons will be distributed in all ward offices during the week long inoculation drive to in a bid to prevent crowding at vaccination centres.
It has also decided that Health and Population Ministry would be requested to provide oxygen cylinders to hospitals/patients on recommendation of municipalities.
